Equipping the Saints

Dear Church Family and Friends, Our Easter events last weekend seemed to be encouraging and well attended. At our Good Friday Service in Charlottesville at the C-HOP building, we had an encouraging time of worship, Scripture reading, prayer as well as receiving the Lord’s Supper together. It was an important time to remember the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. On Sunday morning we met on the lower hillside beside the church for our first Easter Sunrise service (much later than sunrise) at 8:00am. Our focus at that service was to remember the resurrection of Jesus and celebrate His amazing victory over death. At 9:00am we had our Easter Brunch thanks to Carol Quesenberry, Janet Martin and those who contributed food for the event! At 10:00am we had our Resurrection Celebration Event! It was really wonderful to celebrate in spirit and truth during our worship time! I really enjoyed seeing the children celebrate by waving flags. What a wonderful opportunity to give praise to our Lord who, by His love and sacrifice, won victory over sin and death forever! This coming Sunday we will continue our Presence-Based Community Series with our focus on “Equipping the Saints.” Jesus told His disciples, “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.” (Mat 10:8) Some people have taught that this commandment is no longer in effect and that we are living in an time and place where God does not move in this way anymore. Instead we are discovering that the opposite is true all over the world. God is showing up in mighty ways to save, heal, transform and deliver people afflicted by the enemy. Testimonies from all over the globe are coming in that when faith is applied to need.. God shows up in power! This Sunday we want to look at what it means to be equipped as saints. “Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” (Eph 4:11-13) This Sunday we will be collecting an Benevolence offering. There are a number of members in our church family in need of your love and support right now. I will be sharing more about this on Sunday morning. Please come prepared to give as the Lord leads toward these needs present in our church family! We will have the ability to receive an offering by credit card if you prefer to give that way. Ellen Wyant passed away this past Tuesday morning. Please be in prayer for Henry and the family. This Sunday we will be offering ways that families and individuals can respond in supportive ways. Registration for the Hearing God’s Voice Class ends this Sunday! This class will be meeting for 8 weeks on Thursday nights starting April 12th at 7:00pm! Please sign-up using the sign-up sheet in the entryway. Pastor Kenton Slabaugh and I will be leaving for the Philippines next Monday, April 16th and will be returning Tuesday, May 1st! Please be in prayer for us while we are meeting with pastors and ministry leaders in two cities there! I will be providing information about this trip on Sunday as well as the plan for who will be leading worship and preaching while I am away! See you Sunday! Pastor Jon Quesenberry
